No I haven't, do you have the website, or a link??? Thanks
That DUI one doesn't state ball bearings either. Looks to me like a regular HEI that has the shaft possibly shimmed and maybe better cap(add ons). I still believe setting up a regular HEI is a better move for you. Check the shaft to get a straight one, buy a new case w/bushings and inspect the wiring all other internals w/vohm all other parts can still be purchased. Mine is done this way and is solid as to timing, through rpm etc. which is plenty accurate for most street modded cars w/out the possibility of crank triggered. The other thing is if you find one w/ball bearings in it, most companies will use a class 3-4 bearing which is pretty much junk. Class 7 or a 9 (select 7) is a bearing with real tolerances for run out and not cheap, however a good bushing is actually good regarding run out /slop, it just has more friction. sorry for the long post....
I wasn't aware it was that cold down there before your post. Yes, we have been somewhat warmer. I don't think we actually hit zero, yet, close but I don't think we've been there. What are you trying to do? If you want a reliable ignition for a less than wild engine, just freshen your HEI. If you are trying to create something...proceed.
The parts that will produce 54kV is a waste of resources on an engine that will never allow more the 12,000 - 15,000 volts to develop. I gap my plugs at .045" and never a misfire, with the stock HEI, even shifting at 6200 rpms.
black blob at upper left (sorry abt poor pic) is an old 70's chevy dizzy with plug wire towers 3.0'' apart (180* measurement)....lower left is a ''big'' HEI = towers 4.38 apart....right side is a ''small'' dizzy = towers 3.25'' apart....center of the pic is (from the back of my storage cabinet) a nib MSD ''must have or you'll die'' conversion for the old chevy that adapts a Ferd cap (towers 3.88'' apart) to the old chevy dizzy to stop life-threatening (we were sold, oops-told) cross-fire with high output ignition systems.
so now i'm confused -- why did chevy ''go big'' for the first HEI, and MSD promise eternal salvation, so long ago...and now itty-bitty is in ??
did electricity get smarter??
yeah, i do have an opinion, and i choose components that coincide
On that note, do you have any background info on GM's tsb to run .035" gap on the HEI vettes, in 85 at least?
I don't know if you are talking to me or not, but no, I haven't seen such a TSB for my car. I have had HEI equipped cars that had a plug gap spec of .060". No problem with them, either.

But Crossfire is good. And yes! Electricity HAS smartened up. Don't discount the effects of "Monkey see, Monkey do".
