Default 93 headlight dimmer switch problem

I have a problem with my dimmer switch. When I pull the signal lever stalk to switch between High/Low I can't get the switch to toggle. I did remove the small plastic cover from the signal lever, and I found a small clip just sitting at the bottom of the cover. I looked inside the steering column and cannot figure out where this clip goes. Doe's anyone recognize this clip, or can someone please post a schematic of the signal lever stalk for a '93 ??? I just got the car last week, and here in Texas, the car will not pass inspection with just the Low beams working....... Also, the right/left turn signal, and cruise control functions properly. It is just the High/Low beam function that is broke.

Thanks!!

That is not an easy question to answer online
I would recommend you invest in a service manual

I believe that is the preload spring. It keeps pressure on the switch lock acuator rack. I don't see how that would effect your high/low beam problem though. I would suggest letting someone experianced with GM columns take care of it. If you want to tackle it yourself it's not really that difficult, but you will need a detailed diagram as well as a steering wheel puller and a lock plate tool. Since you're going to be into the column anyway, I would go ahead and tighten the bottom bolts on the tilt mechanism.

Ramrod,
Thanks for the insight. I think you are correct that this preload spring has nothing to do with the High/Low beam problem, as I noticed today that if I put the tilt steering in the uppermost postion, I can pull hard enough on the stalk to get the High/Low beams to switch! With this in mind, I am going to try to adjust the switch postion at the bottom of the steering column and slide it closer to the pushrod coming from the signal lever.

Thanks again and
