I have a 1990 6-speed Vette. My brother killed the clutch while I was out of town, and took it to a shop to get it replaced. I had no problems before this, but now the cruise control doesn't work, the tach is screwy, and the driver side head lamp opens and closes about 4 times before finally staying up.
I been though the wiring under the hood and under the car, and can't find any problems, (broken wire, bad ground, bad connection, etc.)
At this point I'm kinda at a loss. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help.
I've never taken a tranny out of a '90 but I've got a feeling that when you do, the engine tilts back and can easily smack the Firewall. That probably broke the Tach Filter and may have broken the vacuum line to the HVAC controls which also happens to be the vacuum source for your Cruise. Is air flow correct when you switch between Heat and A/C? Find the vacuum line at the rear of the Plenum, right side near the MAP and Fuel Pressure Regulator and then follow it around the back to the left side of the Distributor where it should meet up with a Check Valve. One side tees off to Cruise and the Vacuum Tank in left headlight well; the other disappears through the Firewall over by the right head.
Headlight sounds coincidental and I'd guess the gears are shot.
Why aren't you asking the shop to pay for these things? They repaired the clutch and broke three others (well at least probably 2)?
it sounds like these guys did the damage to you elec system except for probably the head light. I have no experiance with l98 but lt1 has a main ecu ground on the bell housing. since the ecm system usualy runs on a ground short principal any problem with the grounds manifests itself in weird ways
Thanks so much for the replies, I will definitely check this out and let you know what happens.
As for the shop, the owner is a nice guy who is reimbursing for all the labor charges, the mechanic is a moron who apparently screwed up some other cars and no longer has a job. The other problem is that I'm in Georgia, and the shop is in NC.
Most of grounds on your car are attached to the engine via the bellhousing. Make sure they were all reattached, and that they are tight, and maybe even clean.
