Default 1990 ABS and INF REST Faults

I have a 1990 Vette and have had two problems with the air bag faule (INF REST) and recently the Service ABS fault. The air bag seems to be a continuing problem. I had the front left sensor replaced by the dealer a few years ago after having the computer reset a couple of times (code 16 I believe). Now I have the same error code and am told by the dealer that the same sensor is bad. This car is in Arizona and garaged with probably 2 thousand miles (62,000 on the car now) on it since the sensor was replaced. Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Also, for the last 10 months my Service ABS light comes on intermittently. Recently more often, but after shutting the car off and then on sometimes it goes away. I have felt a pulsing a couple of times before the light came on. I believe I saw a post from someone with a 92 that removed the sensors on the back plate of the brakes and cleaned these. Not sure if I'm right on this or not.

This is my first post so any help would be appreciated.

Take it to a different mechanic and let them check it out. Apparently your dealer doesnt know what they are doing. No warrany on the new sensor? The ABS light comes on in my car due to a supposed relay/sensor. I just covered it up with black electric tape. Worked for me. If it stops, its doing its job.

Check tech tips for the infl rest. light. The sensor may not be bad it may need to be reset on the frame. Mine was not making good contact with the frame, due to moisture. Clean it up , reseat it with die electric grease and reset code, it worked for me.

My 90 does that on occasion as well. I've NEVER had to replace a sensor. Always at the connectors. Drivers side is on the left kick panel below the dash. Passenger is at the top of the foot well under the edge of the carpet. I've never found any corrosion or issue w/ the sensor mounts. But the Helms manual tells you how to test the sendor w/ an ohm meter at the connector. Mine have always tested good. Reconnected & then reset my code for another year+

Do yourself a favor & buy a manual... or wait till I get my shop open & come pay me to fix it right. ;-)

When I bought my 90. I had the exact same problem and fixed it te same way. The other thing to note is that it seems when there is any kind of electrical "wierdness" such as a failing battery, alternator, etc. the light may come on and it just takes a reset to fix it. Also, if you have ever stuck your head under the dash you'll probably upset the sensor connector (like Trog mentioned) and have to reset it.

It's a pain in the butt having the system so sensitive but I understand why they do it - it just may save a life.
