383. Freshen up that motor a tad. Maybe even build it for boost and add a turbocharger later on.

While superchargers are fun, when adding boost to a motor with that many miles that on it that wasn't built for that purpose originally, you run a higher risk of damaging the already fairly worn parts.

Just my opinion, but I would freshen or even rebuild the engine before adding any type of boost. Doing this would also give you the opertunity to build the engine specifically for the boost application(if thats what you really want).

As for a 383, I love cubic inches as much as anyone else.

You can build quite a bit of power either, it all depends on your budget, and what you really want.

Blowers are not for everyone. I had one and hated it. I am likely in the minority, but hated it nonetheless. Do the homework before making the leap. Owning a supercharged car requires a commitment. Be sure you are up to it.

I'm running 10 psi through my 134,000 mile 86E engine without a rebuild or even pulling the heads. Of course, my compression ratio is quite a bit less than yours (86E's run 9.0:1). But I agree that it takes a certain extra degree of commitment to run FI. But once setup, if done correctly, can be just as reliable as bigger cubes.

If money isn't an problem I would build a 327 all forged bottom and 8.5-1 compression and then turbo charge the hell out of it.

I only recomend the 327 because it is easier to build one to spinn at 7krpm+ wich will realy help the turbo

Pete, what was it that you didn't like about the supercharger? Did it hurt DD drivability?

I think I recall that PeteK had the ATI P-600B and he did not like the whine of the blower. Not all models make the same noise.

I am a proponent of the SCed combos, and especially like the ATI head units. I currently use one of theirs to produce well past 20 psi boost on a fully built stroker. These are fun packages if you can get everything up and running properly. Mine is a very nice driver even with the solid roller, large blower, big cubes/heads, and the C4SP. Tuning is key.

It did alter drivability.
It added a ton of underhood heat
Made 101 decibles at idle
took quite a while to build boost. Especially during freeway driving.
Constant belt slippage issues
Actually made the car sluggish when not in boost because of the drag of turning the blower.
Blower located the aircleaner right next to the drivers side header.
Occasionally blew off any loose connection.
