im sure you will get a lot of those....Not a big fan myself...

Consider the the mufflers to be like music instrument... Louder dosent mean "better"...

I have them on my 85, along with high flow cat and stock front & rear Y pipes...only loud when I want it to be, and ZERO drone...not to mention plenty quiet enough on the highway at cruise rpm's.

Keep in mind video was taken between two house, so it's a bit louder than in person...

I took mine off in mid November and replaced them with the Mid America replacements...stock type mufflers have been sold, and eliminators are back on.

I ran muffler eliminators for about 3 years without cats. The resonance was terrible at 1700rpm. My wife wouldn't ride in the car anymore! I went with 3" duals with flowmaster 40's. The resonance is alot less but it still will rattle your brain slightly at 1700-1800 rpm cruising. But god I love that Flowmaster sound!

lol....Thanks, but like I said though...vid was taken by my son, who was about 10 feet behind me, but between my house, and the next door neighbor's...maybe a 30 feet space in between the two...more like an echo chamber. It's truly not QUITE that loud away from the houses...lol...

Before I start pulling the transmission out, I want to get a vid of the car driving away from a stop....should be a better, more accurate, example

Besides, this is not just the slowest car I've had since I moved in 7 years ago...but it's probably also the quietest.

My next door neighbor is a Corvette fan, so I'm golden.

Sounds exactly like mine. I have the same exact setup as you, but with an aftermarket rear y with the crossover tube (pointless).

Here's a sound clip from inside the car at the strip:

Resonance is not a problem, at least with the cat in there. I cruise between 1700 and 2100 rpm on the highway.

I think they sound pretty sweet on my LT1 with an X-pipe and replacement cats.

Only problem is,I think the car lost topend hp/tq and lowend power aswell. Mojo showed how his car lost 1-2mph in the 1/4 mile dropping the mufflers and adding straight pipes. I think im in that same boat. Im gonna buy Borla XR-1 mufflers next!

I have Em with no cats and with LT headers, just lov em, its sure waaay to loud but i still drive it, b/c i love it and mine is a DD too and 80 miles roundtrip to work and i work 7 days a week.

There's some resonance but who cares hell iam driving a vette not a camry, who cares about comfort and what all i need is sound and power thats it.

I love the way this one sounds.

edit: I'm new to the c4 - what are the piping diameters (in inches) of the header collectors, the cats, and the mufflers on a stock L98? what are the diameters of these aftermarket setups?

My '88 Anniversary has the Muffler Eliminators.

My car doesn't sound nearly as loud as rel3rd - kinda wish it did.

While it still has a nice rumble to it, most people don't really notice it much - they always seem shocked when I tell them the car has no mufflers! It does sound MUCH better than the stock exhaust, that's for sure.

I have never had an issue with drone or resonance.

Keep in mind, mine is running with the stock pre-cats, and stock cat, so I'm sure that is keeping the noise down.

I have them on my '85. They're VERY loud. I was going to swap them out after 3 years of having them, but since I'm selling car, they're not an issue anymore.

I've seen people with B&B tri-flow system which in my opinion sounds incredible but very loud. If you search those threads a few guys have a trick where they plug the outer muffler outlets which significantly reduces resonance and has no negative effect on hp. Essentially you can have a killer system for those nights you feel liek screaming your beast down the road or put the 3" plugs in and have a nice cruise...just a thought.

No idea of the exhaust manifold outlet size on my 85, but all pipes (including elims.) on my car are 2-1/4", except for the actual catalytic converter, which is oval shaped. The cat is actually pretty good sized. FWIW, the stock 75,000 mile cat quieted the car down a lot, so evidently it was at least semi-clogged. I plan on longtubes before Spring.

Has anyone else tried this theory? Reason I ask is because EVERY car reacts at least slightly different than another even when modded the same. I know Mojo has many, many track runs to compare, but those are HIS results. Very strange that your car would lose BOTH low and upper power. Usually, it's one or the other, not both.

I know I've done things to cars past and present, that people swore wouldn't make any difference, but I tried it anyway, and was happy that I did. Perfect example was bumping up my base ignition timing. The consensus was that it would make zero difference, but mine felt like I added 25hp...
NOTHING is written in stone.
