Default Removing Light Switch Rod thing

Hey all. I need to replace my dash lights and the only thing that is stopping me is the pull rod thingie that turns on and off the headlights. How do I take it off so i can take the faceplate off of the dash so i can change the lightbulbs? The more detailed the better as i am new to doing this kind of thing. Thank you!

There's a little opening at the very inboard part of the ****. Use a thin tipped tool, (I've used a eyeglass screwdriver) to press on a tiny tab inside that opening. That'll release the **** so it'll slide right off.

Slide the tip of a flat-blade screw driver into that slot (show in the pic), press outward toward the know as you slide the know off the rod.

if the **** isnt comeing off easily. theres a spring loaded button on side of switch. push this in and whole shaft pulls out. you have to take off dash pad ,though to do it this way.

Hold onto the shaft with a small pair of channel locks then apply pressure to the tab behind the ****. Be forewarned though.......it will probably come flying off like a bullet so A) wear eye protection and B) Have someone as a spotter to locate where it went........
