Default Distributor cover

Has anyone had trouble getting the screws out of the cover over the distributor cap? I got two out but can't get the third.

If this did happen, what was your method to get it out. I would hate to have to drill it out.

I know with dissimilar metals you get this from time to time.

This all came about by the car mis-firing and me diagnosing it as a bad wire. I had the car running and pulled the wire in question off and the car ran the same. I did this with the other wires and the car stalled.

So we are going to go with new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and see how it goes.

Thanks!

Yep, had the same problem on my 86 a while back and I had to drill one out. The local ACE in my area has a big metric section, so replacing all three wasn't a problem.

I now use anti-seize on the threads.

Default screws

th best you can do is squirt it with penetrating oil, and let it sit for a week. THen when you try to get it out, use the torx tip that fits it, and rock it with the cover, lifting up slightly to put frction on it.
If you screwed it up, you have to drill off the head, and use vise grips on the shank and rock it back and forth.
If you are past that, you have to drill the screw out all the way, just be sure to use a way 2 small drill, and step up to the screw size, and use a tap to chase the threads.
If you screwed that up, just drill all three out to the next size hole, and tap the threads.
If you get to this step, just remember, there is a drill for each size screw threads because you have to make the hole slightly smaller than the screw so you can cut new threads in the aluminum.

Drilling it out was the inital plan. But I have always found that asking on this board first is the way to go.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Default feelin' lucky ??

never pull the plug wires off an HEI to look for a bad hole...the HEI may build enough zap trying to fire the super-gap that it fires internally and either smokes itself immediately or does damage that will show up somewhat later...shut er off and put a test (old) spark plug that is grounded onto the engine for that plug wire....hope you got lucky this time
