Default Simple Question........

When replacing the thermostat (just replaced mine with a new one) do you use a gasket or RTV? I couldn't tell what I was looking at when I removed the old one...too old.

Thanks,
Dave

I used a Gasket and a small bead of permatex on each side of it. No leaks. I also like to let it set-up overnight...

I installed mine using both a gasket and rtv.... I used RTV to build up a sort of O ring in the recessed area of the housing on the manifold I believe it was. I prolly over did the sealant but Im one of those you cant have enough of a good thing I guess.... even though I know differently

Dave

Use both the gasket and the RTV. I coat both sides of the gasket with the Permatex RTV and then torque it to spec.

Wait atleast 12 hours before starting the car and you will be leak free.
