I would like to install a new oil pan in my 86 with the new engine. Can I go with an 8.5" deep pan? Or will I loose too much clearance? Thanks :smash: :chevy

You didn't say if vert or coupe...The vert supposedly has more ground clearance because of the X-braces (stiffer or longer springs)...
Anyhoo, lemme go out and measure my '86 vert pan...
OK; my '86 has a 7 1/2" pan, and it is level with the front crossmember bottom, which is the lowest projection in the front (the X-braces hang further down, but are behind the pan)...If you go to a 8 1/2" pan, it will be the lowest part of the car, in front of the X-braces...
IOW, it'll hit the ground first pulling into a steep driveway, grocery parking lot, etc.
