So the clear coat is peeling on my sawblades on the 94 vette I just bought. Im going to take some razorblades and aircraft cleaner to take off the clear, I really like the sawblade design and want to keep them... Im just wondering if I would be better off painting them or just polishing? I know polishing takes a lot of effort to keep looking good, as well would it be dumb to be a trendsetter and paint them black and leave the lip polished? J/w b/c I have not seen that done thanks!
that looked AMAZING thats exactlly what I thought it would look like!! I really like the sawblades and dont understand why everyone bashes them so much... Seems like everyone would rather get bigger heavier wheels, or something that is cheaply made and not covered by insurance if stolen (in some cases) anyways I will get off my rant, if anyone is good at photoshopping put those from the last link on a black 94 I think it would look killer.
I think that black looks pretty sharp! I was considering having mine painted white, to match the car, when I had mine refinished. I chickened out and had them done in a factory silver. I posted a picture in the other thread, here's a closer one I found. I think they turned out pretty well.
Check into what a small powder coating shop would charge in your area. I plan on doing mine through a friend of mine and he told me he would charge about $200.00 for someone off the street he didn't know.
Just for comparison here are pictures of mine. It cost me total of less than $20 to do all 4 wheels and took about 1-2 hrs per wheel. I did not repaint, reclear or anything afterwards and 9 months later they still look good to me.
Left is before, Right is After
And back on the vette.
I used two cans paint stripper and some Blue Magic metal polish and fine steel wool, no sandpaper of anykind. Hope this helps you decide what to do.
hi there guys,
i love the look of saw blade rims!
so much that i got my saw blades power coated white after i got the rear rims widened to 11"!
it cost me $160.00 aus dollars to get them power coated white!
gees they came up lovley!
then i brought new center chrome caps and chrome wheel nut caps as well!
now i am planning with a bit of luck to get the saw blades made into 18" or 19" in doamater to top them off!
