Default A miss or stumble

I first noticed that my Ruby had developed a stumble when I would start off it seemed fine although it was not running 100% because all of a sudden with the gas pedal in the same position more power would just happen. It would also intemittently miss or stumble but then be fine. Last time I drove it the check engine light came on and off a few time during a stumble and at the end of the trip it was getting rough just taking off.

I pulled codes and no current codes just history codes.

I need a little help on where to start the troubleshooting.

FYI, I have 116K on the clock, did an opti about 30K ago along with new plugs and wires.

Thanks in advance for any advice, I'm hoping to get some time late Sunday to take a look

what were the history codes?

check the coil wire... also, the ICM can cause all sorts of wierd things. Jet-Jock had a problem with his 93, and the cause was the harness that connects the ICM to the engine harness.

27 - Quad driver module #2
45 - L oxy sensor rich

OK, I can do that but what does CODE 27 - Quad driver module #2 mean or indicate?

I have never been clear what the quad driver codes really mean.

Over the years I have had my 92, it would throw a QD code, as a result of other codes. So I don't know if they are real, or simply sympathy codes.

Since you have the codes, I would check the left O2 sensor connection first. It could be that the wire has grounded on the exhaust causing this. Or, for some reason the connection is not good. If you have a Factory Sevice Manual use it to troubleshoot the codes. If not get one for future use. If you replace the O2 sensor it might fix the problem and might not...and if you do replace the O2 sensor, replace both as bogus suggested.

Not sure about the quad driver code either. You can clear the codes and see if they reappear. Disconnect the battery for ~30 seconds or pull the ECM fuse.

Rex, I had a stumble that I could point out at 2000 rpms. It threw a QDM failure along with bad sensor readings. Ended up being a bad ECM.

Come to find out, the front engine ground wasn't clean enough and this is where I grounded the meziere waterpump. Shorted back to the ecm.

Not sure if this is what's wrong with your car but good luck.

I'll see what happens when I replace them, drive it and check the codes.

Thanks for the help

Actually it was 1:26AM

It was a PIA on the pass side but got it done. Didn't have a chance to take a test run but going now to see how she runs, I'll check back in, in an hour or so

Unfortuately the news is no success.

It's running the same way. I can induce the stumble by cruising at about 1800 RPM.

No more code 13, but still have 45 and of course 27.

SO code 45 L oxy rich. Injector problem? Opti problem?

The FSM refers to using a Tech 1 to troubleshoot.
Should I buy one?

I was looking at code 27 and it looks like the QDM#2 controls the skip shift. Wondering since I have that disconnected at he ECM if that's the reason for that code?

I'm lost, might be time for the first trip to a mechanic

I'm up for plugging in my laptop to the ALDL and seeing what we get, if you think that will help. Any opinions from C4 Tech?

I don't think the laptop will tell me anything more than the codes I already know.

After talking with my mechanic (former C4 owner)
He thinks it maybe a bad wire or plug.
Worse case senario could be mechanical.

I'm headed out of town for the week and probably won't get back to it until Christmas Eve.

I would agree with the plug/wire situation. It seems to variable for it to be mechanical. I would expect that to be ALL the time.

Do that yes. This way you will be able to see what the left O2 is telling the ECM.

Check the leads on the left bank and make sure they are good and firmly connected into the distributor, also check each of the left plugs and see what you see. There is a possibility one or more of the left plugs may not be firing during this time in which case the fuel wont burn, and the O2 will think its rich.

When you rechecked the codes, had you cleared them from the previous check?
