Default "Elbow" or Plenum

I haven't heard anything on this subject for a while, so I thought I'd ask...what's the latest (best) for a single-plane intake? An elbow with an outlet matching the manifold opening, or a larger, more open plenum type.

I don't know, but I too am very interested in the answer to your question.

Sort of like a Super Ram plenum? T-shaped or maybe L-shaped for
throttle linkage clearance. Perhaps 6.5"-7.0" wide to fit between the
fuel rails. Extending far enough back to require a small cap dist.
Maybe with a modification to the intake flange to change the spacing
of the plenum mounting bolts, moving them outboard. With either
a velocity stack or some sort of floor-shaping to smooth air inlet
at the plenum/manifold transition. Topped by a domed lid for greater
stiffness to resist intake pulsation.

Sorry, but I do not know of anyone with such a plenum.

Interested in further reading? Google on Helmholtz.

Here is some material that may be helpful.
There is a discussion about plenum volume considerations for V8's
near the end of the document in the third link. It says in part:
...The following guidelines are for engine operating in the
5000-6000 rpm rage.

V8's with one large plenum feeding all 8 cylinders does not work
all that well as far as the Helmholtz resonator goes, but if this is
the case, plenum volume should be about 40-50% of total
cylinder displacement.
(FWIW, the plenum volume of a Holley Stealth Ram is just about
4.5 litres, or 79% of the total displacement of a 350 (5.7L) engine.)

I think either route will do the trick. But... make sure you have the cubes / heads / cam to "carry" the C4SP. I get a lot of folks asking about using the C4SP intake with a basically stock engine.

or have best of both worlds have a plenum with a built in elbow which i call a ski slope that is what is in atleast 4 intakes that i know of

Slalom4me...thanks for your input & links. Very interesting; although the first link made my head hurt, and my eyes eventually crossed..

AKS Racing...seeing your beautiful motor not long ago is what got me thinking about elbows. I've noticed a lot of the forced induction guys seem to run them. Sure seems like it would work on an NA motor too, but I'd hate to leave a bunch of free power on the table, if it's there somewhere.

CORKVETTE1...you talking about Jebs'? Would that have a "ski-slope" from the top, aiming at the opening?
Thanks to all...

The slope is internal that he installed - you cannot see it.

I hope you made it down to the best part
An example. Ra Inta made this example. He took a spherical Helmholtz resonator with a volume of 0.00292 m3and a cylindrical neck with length 0.080 m and cross-sectional area 0.00083 m2. To excite it, he struck it with the palm of his hand and then released it. A microphone inside the resonator records the sound, which is shown in the oscillogram at left.
