Following a thread here in the forum, I secured a spare tire light
lens from Ecklers and the lamp socket from the Chevy house, but
the 194 bulb is physically too big to press into the socket. Any
suggestions for an alternate bulb?
I'm runnin' a '93 Ruby and there was no light back there to begin with.
Upon closer inspection, I only found a wire running down from the
deck encased in a plastic conduit. The '93 Helm manual doesn't mention
this light, and every Chevy house I called or visited said, "A what?"

LOL figures. Heck thats what I said until I finally looked into it. Hmmm.... somebody must know a good alternative. The 194 worked perfect for me, sorry. :(
All right, this is how the spare tire light project shakes out:
Lens unit from Ecklers: A2494 (GM # 16509351) $8.50
Light socket from Chevy: GM #12083007 $12.50
Bulb (Trade #24 - Thanks Ramrod92 !) Free (Chevy in a good mood)
I don't even think i have a wire hanging down,, where exactly is it.. i have been under the car alot lately(with the 4.10 install) and i haven't seen a thing????
This wire snakes its way down from the underside of the
rear deck and is enclosed in one of those plastic accordion-like
conduits. It stops directly above a bracket which is mounted
on the rear facia just opposite of the large bolt you use to lower
the spare tire tray.
This bracket has two holes which correspond to the mounting pegs
on the lens unit. I couldn't tell what the color code was for the wire
but the bulb socket had one blue, one brown. The schematics I've
seen in both the Haynes and Helm manuals says that black is ground.
I'll use a VOM to determine which is which if the wire's color code is
indistinguishable.
