I saw a whole set of these 24lb injectors in Summit mag for only $239. Has anybody used them and are they any count? Also, with the mods listed in my signature, do you think I could upgrade to 24lb without any problems? Thanks. :flag
the ford svo #24inj. are the same had to trim around inj. for clip(takes30seconds ea. inj.)also didnt go in as deep as stock, lots of people use them here& havent heard anything bad includ. mine, no leaks, I say try it, unless you want to spend more$$$..
I replaced my stock injectors with Accel 24#'ers a couple months ago. The only problem I had was a little bit of excess yellow plastic under the upper O-ring on a couple. (if you get some, check under your o-rings before installation)
They fit fine on my 85, and work great. :yesnod:
I went with Accel stock. They fit fine, only one stuck open after an initial run and even though I got a free replacement, it's a hassle to take everything apart, replace all the gaskets, o-rings, etc, a second time. Also, beware of little plastic splinters under the upper o-ring as mentioned earlier. I checked carefully before installation, but one didn't show up until the system was pressurized causing a leak at the rail. Overall, I think you get what you pay for and though quality is going to cost at least twice as much you will at least get peace of mind and unless you've got a monster motor, you don't need 24lb injectors.
If you do decide to change them, do a pressure test on the system before you bolt the fuel rails back into the intake. I have read two posts from people who had one stick open. That can cause the cylinder to flood with fuel and damage the rod and piston because its try to compress a liquid.
Though I don't disagree that you might possibly damage a piston, the real danger with an open injector is that you might wash down the cylinder wall. Otherwise, the fuel is going to go out through the exhaust valve where it's greeted by the cat and raw fuel sitting in a 1000 degree cat is not a good thing! That's also why you always start the motor following an injector balance test.
Yes, the 24 pound Accel injectors work, you will probably be running richer though till you get an adjustable fuel regulator as well as have the car tested for Fuel vs O2. Then again the computer probably will learn from the O2 sensor and adjust the pulse of the larger injectors downward. I too cleaned the yellow plastic with an exacto knife and lubed the Orings before install. Buy some clips from GM, you will probably break one or two or eight.
