Default digital dash issue

I've searched around some, but didn't find any older threads that addressed the specific problem I'm having.

My dash works fine as far as the readings, etc., it's just a problem with the lighting. I fades in and out. Even at it's brightest, it's still pretty dim and hard to read. When it fades out, it's completely off.

Is this likely just a simple connection issue or do I have a bigger problem?

Also, should a replacement be required is it possible to upgrade to a later dash with the larger numbers? Mine is an 84.

Thanks!

My digital dash is messed up also....Basically the best thing is to have it rebuilt and have "new guts" put in it....300 bucks though is not worth it to me...

Can you read the displays when the car is turned off? If so then the LCDs are sunburnt and need replaced.

There are several good sites with troubleshooting information
