they came in today, the EM 1 7/8 with merge collectors.
i'll install them starting tomorrow morning along with the solid motor mounts i got from Sam.
have a look......
those are amazing... what size are the collectors? ALso what hp / rpm range would you think those would suit best? Details on what kind of a monster motor you are building ??
the headers were $1625.00 total and i just measured the collectors, there 3in
when i ordered the headers, Merle at EM explained the merge collectors to me but i dont remeber how they make more hp then regular collectors
my motor is a 383 lt4, ported heads, intake, 58mm tb the new custom grind cam will have somewhere @ 240-250 @ .050 dur and upper .580-.600 lift. not sure of exact specs yet. it makes 402hp and 408tq at the wheels now on the motor and after i put the headers on it will go back on the dyno to see what diff it made with just the headers. i will also spray it this time on the dyno to see what it makes on the nitrous.
then i will change the cam and back to the dyno.
i'd like to get @ 450 rwhp on motor with the new cam and headers, thats around what zix here on the forum has. my cam will be pretty much a copy of his.
I was at EM the other day looking at these before they were coated - very nice. Everything Merle offers is high quality.
I will be interested in seeing what you pick up as I also have a 383 LT4 with shorty headers and know the long tubes should really make a big difference.
Why 1 7/8" primaries? I remember when I was asking header questions and the guys from the SW camp started balking all over the thread about how a 1 3/4" primary is too big.
Now I'm all about "bigger is better" but is 1 7/8" necessary? Is it worth the extra hassle?
Gotta admit the EM longtubes look like underhood jewlery compared to the SW's. What I can't figure out is why the SW headers are more money (stainless aside) and look like total crap!
