Default heater core flow question

My 1984 has no heat and I believe I have located the problem, that being a frozen water valve near where the core lines exit under the hood. The valve is rusted since the heat was never used being a florida car its whole life.My question is if I replace the valve and plumming can I expect heater core problems. Since the valve is shut does that mean the water is not flowing through my heater core and will I be opening up a can of worm making it function. I heard and read how difficult replacing the core is on these cars although I have replaced cores on cavilairs and some older cars which it were not to difficult. Reading the FSM it seems like you have take half the interior apart in tight quaters on the Corvette .I dont use this car in the winter but its nice to have a little heat on cool spring mornings but I can manage if you think getting the heat to work will agravate a sleeping dog at present.

If there has been coolant lying in the core for >22yrs there's a fair chance that it would leak if flow is initiated now.

However replacing the heater core, though a PITA, isn't really all that bad if you can take your time at it. I just did my 1st heater core ever in my '88 IROC-Z and now wouldn't hesitate to tackle the one in the Vette if needed.

After all why not enjoy your Vette to the fullest and be comfortable doing so.

hook up heater, if it leaks, bypass it.
