Is my 87 a one or two piece seal? I am pretty sure that they went to a one piece in 87 but want to make sure as I am looking at a new oil pan for my car and don't want to buy the wrong thing.
Thanks.

87 was definately one piece rear seal. 86 was the first year for it.
One piece seal is different from the 2 piece. If you look at canton's web site it has both oil pans.I already made that mistake. The one or two piece seal holder is not cheap
That's what I was interested in from another member but his is for a 2 piece seal.
Even though some people like the built in return, I did not go that route, as it seemed to return the oil at a level that is below the liquid line. I wound up adding a -14AN fitting in front of the first main cap, and return oil from the SC in that area.
The -14AN fitting has a teflon seal on the inside and uses a safety-wired back up nut to ensure that the nut does not back off.
I would make sure that I got a pan that is made for a 1 piece rear main seal. The two-piece rear main seal pan with adapter is just another potential area to have issues with in the future.
