Default Where does this peice fit in? (pic)

I'm trying to find out how this piece fits into the lower air dam on my '85:

I looked at the instructions of where it is supposed to fit in and I cant find and place to screw it to... The entire front air dam (except the two side pieces) was missing when I bought the car, so I have nothing to reference...

any help? or can someone provide a pic?

This is all that was left of the air dam on my car when I got it:

Mikey, almost looks like the alternator brace. But, I know which piece you are talking about. There is one on each side under the front bumper. I will have to take a look at my 86 to give a correct answer. At work tonight.....I'll let you know by tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it.

That part goes in the middle. There actually should be 2 of them, (at least on my '90) the other is only about 1.5" tall and goes between the middle/top side of the air dam up to the smaller air deflector that is in the front of the radiator. The longer one you have pictured meets there & goes up to the bottom of the brace right behind the energy impact absorber. sorry I don't have a camera handy at the moment but I did wander downstairs to the garage & look to confirm that.

Hope it made sense. Merry Christmas!

Ok, here is a pic now;

Mickey: I have my 89 on a lift and can easily get photos of the air dam area if you need them. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for any help you guys can give... I kind of think that whatever that peice is supposed to screw into is either broken or missing- which is why I need help.

And merry christmas to all

My 86 doesn't have any braces.

Mickey: Here is a photo of my 89 and I do not see the part you show in your post. There is a support bracket that secured the middle of the horizontal red part to the air dam. This is shown in photo:

I looked from below the air dam and agree with warp8 in that I cannot find the part.

I have that lower support you pictured... It looks like that is all mine is supposed to have. Maybe the piece I pictured is for later years then.

Thanks' for your help

Here's what it should look like with the other bracket attached:

And here's where it used to be (attached to center bolt):

I removed the brace because it interfered with my SLP cold air (the scoop visible in the photo).

That's it.

But I have nothing to bolt the top to. It must have been added in to later models.

Thanks for the pics

It looks to me like the same thing in both mine and Trog's pics.

In my case the impact bar is also missing. That's why it appears to be more wide open. It looks like its intended to go around/behind the impact bar and up to the body attaching point.

Default 1986 emission diverter valve location

Trying to find out how to hook up the two diverter valves and the air pump hoses?
