I'm about to send my base out. (another couple weeks) I'm limited by rules that require the stock base so I'm going to give it a shot. I think it was $395 for the basic service or a total of $475 for the extra porting. I am also interested if anyone has been down this road?? Results??
i looked into the possibility of some extrude hone work about 2 1/2 years ago. i was told over & over again (even by the cats at extrudehone.com) that for a street setup its not even near worth the cost.
if you're living at the track and die by the sword, then the ever so slight improvements in your timeslips may be worth it to someone; to me, that ain't worth a hill of beans. to me, if it doesn't show up directly on my butt it aint gettin' done, SOTP is king and nothing else matters about it.
Extrude hone will do a good job of getting to parts of the runner you can't get to. You should be able to hand port the base which will be better anyway. A good part of an effective port and polish is the final finish, the finish helps flow air the way you want it to. Extrude hone is good for enlarging what is there, but it is just an abrassive so it's not going to take out any casting flaws like a hand port will do. It will just blend them.
If you did a combination of extrude hone to enlarge the runner (a little bit) and then a hand polished finish, could give you a good result, but will be expensive.
