When installing the optispark....be extra careful with the drive gear. It most definately goes in two ways, without resistance, about 15 degrees apart on my car.
I just reassembled mine for the second time after correcting this. I put it back together the first time and got a no start with backfiring through the intake, I was like...WTF!??!!
I took it apart again and discovered the problem and corrected.
Its funny that my first install took about seven hours and my second try I did it in about 2 1/2 hours Its amazing how fast we learn!
This is why I recommend a brief test-firing of the engine before the water pump goes back on. If there's a major problem with the Opti, you'll find out while it's still accessible. Glad you got yours straightened out. Bummer about the re-do.

Be well,

I took your tip on the second go round, fired right up!
Oh, its a 92 I've been fiddling with. Its a 125k coupe, auto, black rose all stock, everything works. I was changing the radiator, decided to go ahead and do the waterpump and hoses...while I'm at it, opti, plugs and wires. I suppose everyone knows how beat up my hands ae right now! Later. Jim
