Default Alternator jumping/speedometer/climbate control????

I already discussed some of this before and a couple forum members who I GREATLY APPRECIATE, told me to unhook my alternator and start the car. My dad did that a little bit ago and we are still on the phone**im in texas**. He took the voltometer to my car and its jumping around like mad. He put the voltometer on his jeep and its a steady thirteen. Now my alternator is a "Rebuilt AC Delco" from Advanced Auto Parts.....So could the wacky alternator be screwing up my digidash/climbate control??? Is this normal on a vette with the jumpy alternator?? Thanks.

The box in the middle where it turns your heat/ac on and tells you the outside temp and your air/heat temp.......Its on my 86. Some models have manual but this is I believe automatic.

A common failure in alternators is a voltage regulator that oscillates and unplugging the alternator turns it off. If the pulsating lights stop, you have a defective voltage regulator in your alternator. The climate control lights can play musical chairs due to poor electrical connections inside the climate control and these can be fixed by swabbing the pins on the back of the climate control with a Q tip and electrical contact cleaner AND by taking the climate control apart and melting the solder on the solder pads that the row of flat springs contact and then putting the climate control back together. The climate control circuit board comes apart by pinching the exposed circuit board at the rear of the climate control. If the tach continues jumping around with the alternator unplugged, you most likely have a defective tach circuit on one of the two circuit boards and a cluster repair station needs to repair this for you.

Default alternator

cheap alternator rebuilds can cause this problem.
When the rebuild house takes the alternator apart, they cut off the wires from the stator, and rebuild the alternator.
When they reattach the stator wires, they use a crimp on the wires that creates hot spots and resistance, and the crimp loses it's tension, and becomes a intermittant connection.
I took my "delco remy" rebuild apart and found that crimp mod.
I went to the wrecking yard, and found a alternator off a buick that was just like mine except for the mounting lugs. Same amps.
I took the buick one apart, and used the back half, unsoldering and resoldering the wires, I used the Buick stator, and reassembled my alternator.
I reinstalled it, and no more problems with my digital dash.
The Buick one was $45 from the wrecking yard. I told them I didn't care what it was from, It had to be 105 amp GM alternator CSI and I think they pawned a little used part number alternator on me thinking I was stupid or something.

It was a rebuilt AC Delco. I thought it would be good. He said the lights did NOT flicker anymore and the speedometer went still when it was in park. So I know the alternator is not in good shape. I guess we will buy one this week or something. Thanks for the help. I hate that stupid digidash. Its so in accurate but it looks cool. Thanks again.
