I'm replacing my water pump, timing chain and sprockets. I was think about going to an electric water pump while I was in there, but I don't know much about them. Does anyone have any experience installing an electric water pump? Is it worth it? Which ones do you recommend? What should I look out for?
I put one on my vette a few months ago. I really like it and it works great. Easy to install. But you need a press to get the old shaft out of the water pump housing. Good luck!!
Meziere pump is the pump of choice amonst C4 owners. Mine has been in for a year with no problems, plus it allows me to circulate the coolant when the engine is off and during coolant changes. Press is not needed, just a careful whack with a hammer to knock the shaft out of the housing. Good luck.
Thanks guys for your help! I needed a good introduction to understand the benefits of the electric water pump. Sounds like the Meziere 300HD series is the way to go. However, I think I am going to hold off right now. I have the L98 so I don't have the added benefits of 1 less oil seal and the opti-spark risk under the water pump, which you all have for the LT motors. I like the additional cooling power at all RPMs, but I'm not sure I NEED this $360 feature right now. There are other more urgent mods on my list. So this one will wait a bit. Thanks again.
