I just noticed today that the wheels are on wrong. The tires are mounted properly. The guy I bought it from had just put new tires on and the shop must've put them on wrong. I can't believe it took me 4 months to notice.

Hey, you do know that you can Cut your vette in-to if you drive like that.....lol.......
Several years ago when I still had the '86, I had new tires put on it the tech did sorta the same thing, except he swapped both wheels to the opposite side, so all the sawblades were pointing in the wrong direction. When I pointed it out, he had the nerve to tell me I was wrong and that's how they were supposed to be.
I had to remind him that a) I was a Corvette enthusiast and knew good and well which way the sawblades were supposed to point, and b) whether they were right or wrong, the only thing that mattered was which direction I wanted them to go, and that was the right direction and the direction in which they came into the shop in.
Although, I will say it only took me *4* days to notice that one.
you are not alone. Before I bought my '95, I told the dealer that the rear sawblades were on backwards, so the a$$bags charged me an extra $40 to correct them....
These tire mounting guys are just like gas station guys, they think they know everything.
With teh exception of the Pacecar/CE/GS and ZR1 five spokes, they all say "left" or "right" on the inside of the rim.
As for the gas station guys, don't they know that if there is a tether on the gas cap, that usually means there is some kind of hook to hang it on so the gas cap doesn't dangle and scratch the side of your truck?
I've seen a few 91-96 C4's running around with backwards rims. I had tires installed on my 91 rims a few years ago, and go back to the shop and the tire rotation was right but the rims were wrong. I had them do it all over again to correct it. They were not happy.

Doesn't that just make you crazy!?
I bought a set of eight-lug wheels for my son's 4x4 several years ago.
With the package, they gave me 16 lug nuts with 1/2" thread, and 16 lug nuts with 12mm threads.
When I took the 12mm lug nuts back to get the correct 1/2" nuts, the kit behind the counter tried to tell me that Chevy trucks use metric studs and nuts on the front axle and inch studs and nuts on the rear axle!!!!!! I had to insist that he get his manager to get it straightened out.
Far too many people in the automotive business are either plain stupid, or just think all their customers are....

I bought new studs and nuts for 4 that the tire shop kids striped on my Mazda truck(made by Ford) and I took the old stud and asked for the right SAE size and the kid at the parts store said the truck was metric since it was japanese and REFUSED to sell me the right SAE ones...

Me too! Then I was the bad guy. I was going to say something when I dropped it off and then I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I had to tell myself, "told you so".
