OK guys I know this sounds crazy but it turns out most of the guys running high speeds at Bonneville are simply putting the high speed tires onto the spacesaver rims.
so I have 1 - I need 3 more rims - anyone willing to help me out here?
(I know it doesn't seem to make sense - but it's the tech inspectors who put me onto this . The nice part is that it saves quite a bit of money - to be used for other things!)
Mine's taking up space, I'll probably never use it. Where do you live? It's pretty heavy.
I wouldn't go cheap on wheels for a 200mph car, but hey, it's your azz.
I wouldn't either - except thats the collective voice of hundreds of 200 mph runs made over the last 30 years - if they tell me thats the way to do it - you better believe I'm gunna listen to em! - they've been there , done that, got the red hat - and now volunteer their time to make sure newbies don't kill themselves by doing somerthing stupid!

Where ya located. I've got one that I was plannin' to remove anyway.
I don't need the tire - just the rim - but I live in central california - I may need to head out to the local pick and pull - does anyone know if all GM spacesavers are the same size?

I'd try to get three from corvettes, just to make sure the bolt pattern is right.
Good Luck, but I'm keeping my spare....
Central California? ...is there some reason you can't you give us a city?
87 down, 16", later 17" alot more expensive/rare. (16's won't work on 89 up rotors.)
Carl,
Is the appeal of the spare the smooth steel face or the narrow width?
For larger diameter and less weight, the GTO spare works well
on the C4. Folks with the Z06 calipers find them useful. Might
not be quite what you need but I thought I'd mention it.

I have two your welcome to have for free if you like.
Hey Ken,
it's the narrow width and I think they like the bead as well - the surface will be covered by moonies - screwed to the rim!

.
Now I know some drag racing folks were looking for GTO spares, but are you also using the tire? Is that even safe?

If you are asking me, I have a GTO spare for use at the intended
purpose - low speed, temporary replacement in the event of a flat.
It fits over the C5 Z06 front calipers on my car.
As for Carl

I expect he'll use the rim and mount appropriate, narrow speed-rated
rubber for the Bonneville runs. On the salt, skinny is good.
From: Hampton, VA Yea, i'm a redneck... but you love it
