I've never been much for codes, but if the car came with a six speed it is a 44. Besides being a little beefier than the 36 I couldn't really tell you how to tell the difference and I have one of each. Some of the other guys I'm sure can tell you specifics. Hope this helps.

If the car is stock, it does have a Dana 44. There are numbers stamped on the housing that gives you the date of mfg. along with the ratio. It's located on the bottom so you can see it if you clean the area well. Also, the rear cover is different then the Dana 36's used in automatic cars. :cheers:

Look under your center console lid and you'll see a list of the rpo codes for your car. Since you have a ZF6 tranny , you'll find rpo GM3 which is the Dana 44 rear end with 3:45 gears, if it is the original unit. :D
