Today, when I took the air filter housing out, I found a very thin, flat, black, plastic object laying under the housing toward the front of the hood. This thing is the width of the fiberglass radiator housing/cowl and has two vertical slots. Those slots do not correspond to the filter housing screws. It's about 1/32nd in. thick, shiny on one side, and dull on the other.
What the heck is this thing and what is its function? Where does it go, exactly? I just cannot determine where it is supposed to go, or what it is supposed to attach to. It must serve some purpose, but I'll be d@mned if I can see it.
Thanks, Pete.
Now that my "what" questions have answers, can someone answer my "where" question: Where (or, to what) does this deflector attach? There's no mention of it in my manual.
It should sit down under the filter housing to keep any water that may splash up in that area from getting up on top of the filter house & to the intake side.
With the filter housing removed you should be able to see to the ground through the cutouts in the metal energy absorption backing plate. Now if you set that plastic in there the right way it would bock your view & the filter housing sitting on top of it holds it in place.
It's a simple but fuctional answer that GM came up with after prob. running early vettes through the water tests at the proving grounds in Milford...
