I would remove the front cats, sleeve the pipes, and replace the main cat with a hi-flow Magnaflow cat. I did this and really like the result. Total cost $200. Find a good muffler shop and weld everything.
Then do a catback system. Corvette Central sells a Magnaflow aluminized catback system for $299 plus ship. Part # 324120. www.corvettecentral.com
The difference on a car without headers between 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" pipes won't matter.
I used a true dual system, with magnaflow mufflers and an H-pipe from Corvette Central. I am pleased with the system and would buy it again. You can check my website for before and after pics of the installation.

Go to www.corvettecentral.com
Click on the C4 section then search by part number. It is 324120.
I don't have pictures, it is a direct OEM replacement type muffler. The y-pipe has a crossover.

Do those tips look exactly like the factory tips, same size ? I seen some a car show last summer and the tips were 2 1/4 ,,, my tip openings are expanded to 2 1/2,,,, didnt quite look as impressive as my stock tips.
Is there an advantge with the cat back with muflers compared to just putting those muflers on my stock rear Y ?
I put the Flowmaster force 2 system for the LT1 on my 90. Got rid of cats and had a pipe bent to mate to the stock manifolds. Used the hangers for the LT1 by changing a couple bolts on the rear end, have been told I could have used the L98 hangers.
Very happy with it, sounds good, no resonance in 6th at 70 MPH (used to be my problem speed). Was the best bang for the buck I could find.
I'd stay away from a system that mimics the L98s single pipe that splits at the rear. Might be part of the resonance problem.
Also look for a used stock LT1 system, better than the L98 and sometimes you can find it for free.

This is what I'm doing this winter. I will be putting on headers, bullet cats and the LT1 system. The LT1 system I got has muffler eliminators and stock resonator. If it is too loud I have some LT4 mufflers waiting for it.
I think the LTx would be the best bang ....but you will have to do some fabbing for the L98.
I am also doing the Lt1 conversion on my L98 this winter. I hope to get away without any fab work. I will be replacing my original exhaust manifolds with Lt1 manifolds, bought from forum member for $60. I will use Lt1 stock cats, bought from forum member for $65. And I got the Lt1 exhaust for free. As long as I don't have any issues with bolting on the LT1 exhaust manifolds there should be 0 fab work.

Hey Dave. You will need to buy the LT1 hangers also. It should be very easy for you. My will be a bit more involved.
