I am thinking about doing the C5 brake conversion on my '93, what is involved and are there any clearance problems with the wheels? I put aftermarket C6 style wheels on my car but they are the same size and backspacing as stock. for those who have done it how much difference did it make?
I've never done it but it is a popular upgrade among the Z owners. You might call Doug Rippie Motorsports, DRM.com, and ask them about the backspacing and the wheel issues.
I think that on a ZR-1 you must use the spoked wheel that we all call the factory "A-Mold" because the C5 caliper will hit the salad shooters and the saw blade type wheels.
There might be some info about the conversion over at the ZR1NetRegistry.com site in the "How to" section or the "maintenance" section. There is a sticky in the ZR-1 section of this forum about one Z owner's process of doing the conversion, complete with sources, prices and part numbers.
I will let you know I need to make sure I have clearance. I have attached a few pics and it looks like they should fit. there is about 1 1/2 inches between the caliper and the rim itself and about 2 1/2 inches between the caliper and the spokes
