Default C68 problem

Every once in a while the 4 buttons on the left side of the controller work fine. But most of the time I have press the OFF or AUTO and RECIRC buttons about 20-30 times before they will work. But once 1 starts working, they all start working.

Anybody know what causes this????

If this is the climate control unit were talking about, I had the same problem with mine on the 95. I would have to press ever button on the thing to get something to work. I purchased a used on off ebay and it works flawlessly. The one I pulled out I sold in the condition it was in. I have heard, and this might be in the Tech Tips, that you can remove it and clean the contacts at the plug in with electrical cleaner. Some have had positive results and it's worth a try. All you'll be out is about $4 for the CFC electrical cleaner and your time.

Cleaning the contacts on the C68 socket is worthwhile but may not totally fix your problem. You will likely need to remove the circuit board and clean the flat spring contacts that make connection to the circuit board AND reflow (resolder) the pads that those springs make connection to. Over time the solder pads oxidize and cold flow (deform) and the spring contacts don't make reliable connection.
