Can anyone direct me to information on rebuilding an LT1 water pump.
Looking for the pump shaft seal part number and bearing number for the pressed in bearing. Also, how does one get the impeller out and any replacement parts needed. It looks fairly simple and I am in the process of rebuilding the engine and want to do the pump while it is off..or at least give it a try. part numbers of the following would help.
1 pump shaft bearing
2 pump shaft seal (back of pump)
3 how to remove the impeller & shaft
thanks in advance as I don't want to just ruin the pump if possible.
Tom
Thanks, I will if I gather enough info to attempt it. I wish I knew if the shaft/impelles is a slip fit with a snap ring holding it in or pressed in. I have not pulled the rear shaft seal out yet to see the backside. maybe this weekend...I will wait to see if I get some insight here on the forum.
I started to rebuild a water pump for an LT1 several months back. I put the project on hold for a while, due to lack of time. If you are really interested in this, I will see if I can find all of the info. I had gathered on this project. In my opinion, these pumps are built in a way that they are going break down sooner or later. After taking a close look at one, I believe that they can be rebuilt to last much longer than normal, with a simple modufication.
It seems like I remember someone talking about drilling out the drain hole and tapping it and installing a nipple so a hose could route any future leaks safely below the opti. I do not remember if he actually did this or was musing.
