Ok. I took my air filter out yesterday because I was doing a little detailing. I was going to pull all the leaves out of the box because it was dirty. I forgot to put it in the car again yesterday and I got home about 30 minutes ago and I forgot to tell my dad and yes HE DROVE IT to the transmission shop. haha It wont come out of first gear though....long story short. About a ten minute rode drive with no air filter....Is there a good chance its torn up the motor??? Serious inquireys ONLY please. Thanks. FYI, this wasnt intentional, I just completly forgot about it. There was ALOT of leaves and dirt in there though.
well it prob didnt do it any good you could look at opening to throttle body and see if its dirty or not or if there is signs of leaves, would not have any thing to do with not coming out of gear
Unless he drove thru a blinding dust storm, I doubt very seriously that he damaged the engine. Might have suffered a small unmeasurable amount of premature wear tho. Or he may have dirtied up the MAF sensor a little. You will know you affected the MAF if it runs a little rough. Plus, it would trigger a code.
Since he was driving the vette to the transmission shop, I am assuming that the gear problem or some other transmission problem was already present and had nothing to do with the air filter being off. Some may have mis-read your post.
O. Im sorry. The gear problem HAS ALREADY BEEN PROBLEM. lol. The clutch pack burned up so it wont come out of first. lol. Thnaks though. I just wanted to get other opinions on the matter. It wont go over 25 though. So....
Back in the day we had "air cleaners" that at best kept rocks and small birds out of the engine, even then most would run 100,000 miles. I doubt if any measurable damage was done in the driving you discribe.
Would not worry about it. Leaves would be chewed up and spit out and doubt enough dirt got in to cause any harm. Remember years ago it was considered acceptable to clean valves with walnut shells while still on the car. Audi did it for years.
Additionally, I used to run my Ferrari Daytona with velocity stacks. Unless you are in a dust or sandstorm no harm done for brief driving.
