I'm on the fence on getting one of these devices. Can get what I need on eBay for about $150 or so. Are they worth the expense? I do have need to change the fan speeds on my car and who knows what else!
Anyone have one of these they hate/love? Would like to know what you think...
Ok, I'll take a shot on a nickels worth. You will hear alot of pro and con, but it depends on what you what to do. I have one for my 94 LT1 and it accomplished what I wanted. I reset the temp for turning on the fans (nice), raised my speed limiter, raised shift point rmp and how hard i wanted it to shift and installed the hp tuning. It was pricey new from
Hypertech. But I am satisfied. Now, when you plug in a hypertech it will go and verify your Vin number and use this to verify that the correct unit is plugged in each time you use it. That said, if you not do use the same hypertech to return the car to it's OEM tune, the hyper tech is
locked to the vin number it was installed on. So with the Ebay one, try to confirm details before you purchase because if it's locked, it's not useable.
It did what I wanted: changing rev limit, shift points, temperature, octane, and shift firmness. This winter, it will allow the computer to know that I installed a 3.75 axle ratio. Its a nice tool, but as others have said, limited to a mostly stock engine set-up.

Reason: correct punctuation

If you purchase a used one, call HyperTech and they can tell you how to reset it.
