The Proper Fluids for a C4
This is for a 1989 C4 Corvette with TPI Engine, ZF6 Manual Transmission, and 3.54 8.5" posi rear.
Just want to make sure GM gave me the right stuff.
Castrol Syntec 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil
GM 80W-90 Axle Lubericant PN #89021671
GM Syncromesh Transmission Fluid PN #12345349
2 Bottles Limited Slip Lube PN#1052358
Now, I am sure alot of you have experimented with a 1000 different fluids for your engine, trans, and diff. I am just looking for whats going to offer the best protection for my vehicle.
I was reconsidering going with the BMW Oil for the trans since I learned the transmission is German, but if thats not really going to make much of an improvement or is un-necessary then whatever.
I don't know all that much about posi units, but I remember learning to stay away from aftermarket synthetic differential fluids because the coefficient of friction is different from fluid to fluid and the one size fits all type synthetics are not beneficial to the clutches within the posi unit. I may be WAY off there and Im sure someone will correct me if I am.
Hey, love the vette but don't know it that well yet, just treading carefully to avoid any costly mistakes,...
So what do you think,
Dan

Castrol Syntec, Valvoline Synpower, both good oils. So is Mobil 1.
I use Valvoline Synpower Brake Fluid for the brakes and the clutch, also use Synpower for the power steering.
Prestone coolant, with some Redline Water Wetter.
