Guys
I have an 89, 40,000 miles.
I am experiencing a whining noise when accelerating.
It appears to be a pully bearing, possibly power steering, or altenator pully.
Any previous experience??
Any help appreciated.
Danny
I had an off-idle squeaking noise which I thought was the power steering pump. Rebuilt pump - still there. Changed idler pulley bearings - still there. Changed belt - quiet. My buddy had the same problem and same solution with his 95 Impala SS.
Try the belt first.
Perhaps you have a supercharger hooked up.  :yesnod:
I have peole ask me if I have a belt going bad and other stupid stuff from time to time.
I can pick a gear head out of a crowd just by idling my car up too about 1500 rpm, the whining sound gets the attention of the knowledgable ones. :chevy
