Pete K ,I need Info
I was guessing that this is some form of shifter kit maybe ? The atsg suggest removing the check ball from it's socket in the turbine shaft for more positive tc lock up & remove the 3-4 load release spring assemblies for 3-4 durability .This is going in my sons c4 & he likes neck snapping performance. What do you or any Forum member suggest?
Thanks again , Warren .

Is the 2 springs in the accumulator simply 1 spring that is broken?
I cannot imaging cramming 2 correct springs in there. My manual is in the garage at the moment, and I am not sure which is 27 off hand. Always remove the spring packs for the 3-4, and drill the correct hole in the seperator plate(as per atsg) if it is not there. The gasket is used as the template. If memory serves, it is #44. I personally, do not like the tcc engagement "feel" with the check ball removed. I like a smooth lock up, with firm 1-2 and somewhat firm 2-3. It is very difficult to get a firm 3-4 apply. Keep the servo cover movement to .070-.090 form nice apply. A billet 3-4 servo will help also.
If you want to make the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts very, very firm, lock the accumulators with steel sleeves(like the B&M kit does). Harsh shifts and a bit tough on the rear planetary gearset. Younger kids seemto like the B&M set up. I did at one time, but do not like it anymore.
Thanks for the quick response . The 2 springs in the 3-4 clutch accumulator are, 1 silver & 1 grey color, stacked one on top of the other.the trans blew right after a rebuild due to the pinching of a low reverse seal during assembly .
I bought it as a damaged core . The price was right with free shipping from a benevolent forum member. I'll keep everyone informed on my progress with this adventure.
Thanks again , Warren .
Although the 700 is a very complicated trans, do not be intimidated by it. Your instructor will preach 2 things. First is to rebuild it as per the shop manual. You cannot go wrong with the manual(atsg). He will also preach the importance of disassembling sub assemblies and keeping careful track of everything as it is disassembled. As each subassembly is rebuilt, it can be reinstalled. Do not think of it as 1 big trans, but 10 smaller projects.
I also recommend starting with the input drum. This is the tough part. Once it is done, things get easier.
A couple of tips:
Be sure to leak test the servo check ball capsule in the worm track of the case. If it leaks, change it. Most pro's skip this test. Also, if the 3-4 accumulator bore is heavily scuffed, you have 2 options to fix it. 1 is to sleeve it with an aftermarket sleeve and use the matching piston included. The other is to use a transgo 700 2&3 shift kit. This kit blocks off the 3-4 accumulator and makes a scuffed bore a non issue.
