Default Random Tech vs. EM Hi-flow cats

I need to put on a new cat before my emission extention runs out, so I am going to put on a new cat. I have seen to extact fits for my 84. So which one yeilds more performance and less restriction? The Random Tech or the EM Hi-flow cat? Both are around the same money...Random tech is a little more. I have LT headers and eliminators so my stock cat is the weak link. Its toast.

Which one?

"Personally, I would go with Random Tech."

Any particular reason? (higher flow-rate, better warranty, better fit, etc.)
I, too, am looking to improve exhaust flow and am interested in opinions/experiences of others.

If ur's 84 than i got one just like this one : http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

pic shows different in summit's ad, but its a 4 bolt flange on both ends.
very high flow and piece of quality used only for 600 miles (2 months) before i converted mine to true duals. I will even include original summit reciept.

119 + shipping.

bdaly,

I have had a Random Tech on my 84 for 10years. It sits behind the 3" Y-pipe for my 1.75" TPIS headers. Never a problem. No rust. Doesn't seem to be retricting the exhaust. My car ran 105mph in the 1/4 last October.

I bought a hi flow Magnaflow cat for mine a while back for about $75. I would not spend the cash for RT unless it was stuffed with gold.

Carsound brand. They are universal cats though, and have to be welded in. I got mine for $60. In every flow test I've found online, it flows as well as the expensive Random Tech.

Two votes. My personal feeling is all your paying for in the more expensive brands is marketing and added profit. Not all but some of the cheaper ones work just as well if not better. Fedral law dictates a lot of what goes into a cat and it's the same for everyone.

I put the Carsound cat on my 88. The original was restrictive. My muffler guy did the cat and Magnaflow catbacks. I noticed a major difference.

Carsound and Magnaflow is the same company. I put Magnaflow on mine. I used the universal but had to have it welded on. It was $65 on eBay. If you want to put it on yourself get the one from Summit at $119.00. Reconnect the air tube. I decided RT's where not worth the extra money and am happy with the Magnaflow.
