Default 1991 instrument cluster

Does anyone have information on the gauge cluster, my LCD doesn't work half the time and the tach does not work properly, otherwise it is fine. I am handy with electronics, but without prints I am at a loss.

Mine has simalar problems, and I intend to try the following after I get the new interior in.

Pull the cluster, put dyelectric grease on the contacts and put it back together. I have heard that this does the trick.

If this does not work you may have to replace the unit, I have not heard of any fixes. Has anyone else.

Good Luck, Polo

Looks like not much luck out there. I tried a 94 cluster and the tach and display worked but the display was all fragmented as the display was upgraded to a different style in 92. Where does a guy get a replacement?

what's teh easiest way to pull the cluster without braking anything? The bezel seems like it will break when I try to twist it out of there, so I can't see the cluster coming out with the bezel hanging there.
As far as the original poster, mine has intermittent LCDs, that work only when then speed ends in '5' or '6' i.e. 35mph 36mph.
The tach sounds like the filter is bad, mine does the same thing. It 'idles' at 1600, and revs to like 11k LOL. The filter is $35 from Eckler's, etc...
Vette2Vette had the cheapest price~ $100 for a 90-91 cluster. They go for $150 on eBay

This is not a fix, but it works for me.
I discovered that my display occasionaly goes
intermittent after a hard launch. I suspect
that "G" forces are causing the contact
tabs on the back of the LCD unit to loose
continuity as the car stresses and distorts.
I do a max break check from about 70-0 MPH.
This causes all the loose, warped 12 year old
parts to make contact again. It'll hold for weeks.
I know I need to tear it down and retention the
contact tabs but can't see doing it, 'till it's
absolutly nessesary. Hope this helps.
