im picking up a 93 in naples florida and putting it on a dolly to bring back to baton rouge la. anyone can tell me how hard it is to disconect the drive shaft so i dont hurt it,its and automatic?/thanks
You did not say weather it's a coupe or a vert?
I have a vert and what a PITA to get the drive shaft out.
Just put it in nuteral and turn the key back to off possesion.
You can also remove the nut on the shifter lever under the car at the trans. If you jack it up.
Towing an auto tranny car with the rear wheels on the ground and the driveshaft in place is not a good idea The driveshaft will turn the tranny output shaft and that will build up heat inside the tranny and because the enginge is not running, there will be no way to cool the tranny.
I would either drive it back or rent a truck and trailer to haul it. You should be able to get a U-Haul trick and trailer in Naples. Or maybe fly to Naples??
I was just looking at what's required to remove the shaft on my '94 ragtop, because I need to replace the tailshaft seal. Looks to me as though I'll need to drop the x-brace, and the exhaust from the cats back. Then it may be difficult to sneak the shaft past the C-Beam (won't know for sure 'til I try it).

if you do pull the shaft make sure and drain the trans fluid first. Otherwise once you get the front end up and the shaft out youll spill fluid everywhere.
Don't even THINK about towing the car with the trans in nuetral! You WILL destroy the trans. If you must use a dolly put the rear wheels on the dolly
If you do this, once your get up to about 45-55mph the front of the vette will start to make your rig fishtail. Don't try pulling out of the fish tail it doesn't work, just gets worse. Either definately drop the drive shaft or get a full trailer.
The driveshaft has to be forces out between the body and C-beam. (I got my 87's out) The manual says to take the C-beam loose.
You also have to deal with the exhaust pipes. You may have to take something else off or loose.
