I use the Red Top Optima. It is sealed and will never leak out on my car. It has 5 year warranty. 1000 cranking amps, 850 cold. Can be mounted inside the car, has no gases. Even mount it on its side. The only battery I will ever buy for any of my cars.
Back in the 1980s the A/C Delco Freedom Maintenance Free Battery (with the red/green indicator window on top) was one of the best batteries you could buy.
My Mom had a 1980 Buick Electra and that battery lasted every bit of seven years without missing a beat!
They went to pot recently with all the problems at Delphi.
I bought mine 4 years ago, and it's got the red/green indicator thingy on top. I sure hope this is a good one . . . before they went to crap.:-o
(No trouble yet.)
I wish Optima would build one without the top posts.
I know there is only 3 companies that actually make the convenional batteries. I think they are Johnson, Exide and ???? I can't remember which company makes the best ones. I know, lots of help, but maybe someone will remember that thread that explained which company made the best ones and which had the problems.
I do notice that the starter cranks a lot faster with my higher amperage Optima battery. With that old Autozone battery I had before, the starter felt weak.
