Just sold my C3 and bought a 93 ruby red 6sp coup with 11000 miles on it. I can tell this is going to be a fun car. I have 2 questions maybe someone can help me on.
1) Backup lights don't work.- don't see where to get at the bulbs, but was thinking it could be the reverse switch. Is it on the tranny?
2)I have the goodyear run flats on it and they are noisey and seem to ride hard. Is that characteristic of them? Any suggestions on replacements?
Get halogen back up bulbs when you replace them, they are worth it.
Welcome to the C4s, and Ruby Red is my favorite color (just not my favorite year). Seriously... that color is GORGEOUS. Keep it clean, and you will have an amazing car that everyone will envy. Also... 11k miles is VERY nice.
I just replaced mine on my '88 last week. To get at the reverse bulbs, remove the license plate and reach in. The fixture requires a 1/4 to 1/2 turn to remove (not a thread but a clasp).
Congrats on the new purchase! Sounds like one hell of a car. I can't help you out with the reverse lights, but I can offer a suggestion on tires. If you're looking for a good replacement, try out Michelin XGT Z4's. They last MUCH longer and seem to stick FAR better than at least the regular GS-C's (I don't have any experience with the runflats but I've heard that they don't perform as well as even the GS-C's). They're a little bit more money (though not much more than stock tires) but in my opinion are well worth it. On the '93 I just sold I had around 25K miles on a set and they looked like they still had half of their life left.
Hey Icruise2,
I'm thinking about making the opposite switch....C4 to C3. So I'm REALLY interested in your reasons for the switch. What are your opinions? Were you just out for a change, tired or frustrated with your C3, or ?? What did you expect from the C4?
Thanks for your help. It will help me make sure I don't make a switch that I regret.
My own subjective opinion on run flats is that they are very loud.
I have extensive wheel time behind the wheel of my friends 1998 with run flats and the tire noise is easily more noticable than my car with Potenza RE730's and C5's are supposed to be quiter and more insulated from this noise.
TP85- I have been thinking about getting a c-4 for awhile. I had 2 c3s and I guess I was getting bored. Also I found myself taking longer and longer trips with the vets and wanted something more comfortable with better handling and economy. One of the drawbacks that held me back was some of the cruises and shows in my area have cutoff years, but the trend is starting to change here. After going to Carlile this year I decieded to look for a 93 40th anniversary car. Found one and sold the c3. No regrets yet.
