FX3 was offered from 1989 to 1995 when it was replaced by F45.
It was the same for all years offered. The control module is in the rear storage compartment behind the driver's seat, hence the longer wires for the front shocks and shorter wires for the rear.

I was thinking they were different but looking at Shox.com says the same thing you posted. They do show FX3 shocks are the same from 89-91 but different from 92-95.

I noticed that on shox.com they advertise the acuators for the front and rear for $279 and the description says SOLD IN EACHES.

How does this work? Do you need 2 rear and 2 front purchased seperatley? Has anyone seen a complete FX3 kit that owuld fit a 1994 c4 base coupe?

thanks,

macfos

On the FX3 system- the actuators are the same for all years (89-95) the only difference is that the rears have shorter electrical wire pigtails than the front - hence two part numbers. You can get your old actuators rebuilt by Captain Z . http://captainzcnc.com/index.html
A lot of the Forum members have.

As someone already mentioned- new ones cost around $279 each or higher. If you want a good laugh, ask the price of an actuator the next time you are in a Chev. dealer..about 3 times more expensive!

The FX3 Bilstein shocks- There are a set (front and rears) for 89-91 and another set for the 92-95. The difference is in the valving and valve degree travel. While externally the shocks are the same, the computers are set up to work with the individual shock set so aren't interchangeable, meaning that you have to get the compatible year series to fit your car's FX3 system.

You can get the shocks rebuilt by Bilstein at between $100-$140 a piece. They can also change the valving for you, custom to your needs when the rebuild is done. Bilstein (1-800-537-1085) is in Poway CA (near San Diego)

Another option is to buy new Bilstein shocks. The main advantage of buying new ones is that they come with a lifetime guarantee. I bought mine from Shox.com www.shox.com Ph: 800-683-2890 They are in El Cajon, CA.(near San Diego) A set of new Bilstein FX3 shocks from them run about $699. If you not from Calif. you don't have to pay sales tax and the shipping was free.

For more info on FX3- Use the "Search" function in the forum, go to "Advanced Search" and use "FX3" in the Key Words box and "C4cruiser" on the User Name box. C4cruiser has made a lot of good posts on the FX3 system- how to get/ diagnose trouble codes etc. I personally learned a lot from his posts.

The FX3 system is pretty nice when you have it working right.

macfos - The FX3 system is pretty complicated and I doubt retrofitable so if it isn't already on your car, it wouldn't be practical to install. There is a whole system, computer, sensors etc. that has to be available.
