Ok.. The change over is done.. I installed a new compressor, clutch, accumulator, o. tube and some misc. o-rings.. Recharged system with 1.91 lbs of R134a (in lieu of 2.25 lbs of R-12) and used ester (sp) oil for the lubricant.. 4oz in the accumulator and 4oz injected while filling.. we had a vacuum pump on the system for over an hour to get rid of the moisture.. Compressor cycles normal.
I have the automatic climate control C68 system.. with the system on recirculate.. temp on 60*, fan on high (10)
I got a duct temp of 55*
.. this was with the car at 1500rpm for a few min.. (maybe 3 min) and the outside air temp at +/- 58*
For me - no, but if it's cycling due to the outside air temp, it might be hard to tell. Check pressures with the fan(s) running (disconnect the fan switch if it's an '89 or below), engine at 1500 rpms, thermostat open. Post what the high and low side pressures are. If it's cycling, lower the cutoff threshold to 22.5 psi by turning the screw between the low pressure switch terminals counterclockwise.
I was getting low 40's on my '85 after doing the r-134 conversion last summer. It took a while to get down there, but after about 10 minutes of driving that is where it ended up. After about 5 minutes I'd be at around 50 degrees at the center vent.
You may want to pull more vacuum on it to make sure all of the moisture is out. I'm going from memory, but I think I ran the pump for about an hour and let it sit for about 3 before disconnecting the gauges.
