Default " removing distributor question "?

hi guys,
soon once i recieve my super ram i read on vader86 great site with lots of helpful info that he has said to remove distributor of course to remove intake, lower manifold!

i just wanted to clarify what this qoute clearly means please
qoute as follows
" rotate engine manually to top dead centre with distributor rotor pointing to cap location cylinder 31 and mark for proper installation"

firstly so turn lower crank pully over by hand with breaker bar/ratchet with socket till the slot lines up at tdc being "0" is this rite?

but now the hard part i dont under stand sorry is the distributor rotor which i under stand is under cap , "but then it says distributor rotor pointing to cap location cylinder #1 and mark for proper installtion"

so what does this mean please?,i still dont under stand on the last paragraph what should or be done to get it rite and have the distributor sitting in the rite place before i remove it for supe ram inststalltion?

hope some one can please explain clearer for me the dumb *** question i am asking or may be take a clearer approach of words for me to try and under stand on how to go about setting it up rite before i remove it!
thanks guys
glen

You can pull the distrubitor in any position the engine stops in. Before pulling it, take the cap off and mark the orentiation of the rotor. It will need to go back in exactly the same location, as long as the engine is not turned after the dist is out, ther shouldn't be a problem

I by chance the engine is turned with the dist out or you want to get #1 piston to TDC, all you need to do is turn the crankshaft pully and place your finger over the #1 cylinder spark plug hole. When your finger is pushed away, #1 is at TDC. Then you will need to use a long flathead screwdriver and a flashlight to line up the oil pump shaft. The distrubitor needs to be placed in with the rotor pointing at the #1 cylinder. Make sure the distrubitor gasket is on before trying to insert the dist. shaft. The rotor will be pointing the same way as the indention for the oil pump shaft.

If this is what you need.

Remember that the dist base is free to rotate so any ref mark for the rotor must be with respect to a known orientation of the base to the engine, or intake base.

When pulling the dist I use two marks on the dist base and one on the intake base:
-remove the dist cap
-mark the position of the dist body on the intake base
-mark the position of the rotor on the dist base (1st mark)
-slowly lift the dist up watching the rotor turn
-when the rotor stops turning, mark that spot on the dist base (2nd mark).

Then on insertion of the dist:
-align the dist body with the mark on the intake base
-align the rotor with the 2nd mark on the dist base
-slowly lower the dist into the engine
-if done correctly the rotor will now align with the 1st mark on the dist base.

Default dist.

If you put a liquid paper or permanent marker line on the outside circumference of the distributor the place where the distributor rotor stops at, no matter what components you change, the line will always be there.
Then make a secondary line on the distributor somewhere that designates the forward most front of the distributor.
all you have to do is line up the distributor line that marks the front of the distributor, then pick it up , and line up the rotor line, and slide it back in.
If it looks all good, and it won't slid in the last 1/4 inch, the oil pump drive shaft slot is keeping the distributor from sliding in.
In that case, just make sure all the wires for the distributor are disconnected, put the distributor hold down on finger tight, and turn the key so that the engine rotates about a full revolution. The distributor will pop down and seat itself.
Then adjust timing and tighten the hold-down bolt.
