Default Need help with dimmer switch replacement

Greetings,
I have a broken dimmer switch the lever is pulled back too far and stuck,
so no dimmer and no turn signals,

I removed the steering wheel assuming you have to go down the column to fix it,

Now there is a metal round plate that turns with the shaft blocking things,
it has an odd ball looking plastic ring in the center over it maybe thru it cant tell for sure but its all blocking getting at the dimmer switch,

How do I get that plate out of there or is there some other way to work on the dimmer switch?

Many thanks
Cheers,
P.

The dimmer switch is below the left side of the dash. You should see a little black thind on the side of the collum.
A long metal rod goes from the turn switch to this little box and pushes in on the plunger to turn the lights on dim and bright.
You don't have the tools to remove that ring and the snap ring holding down that ring. You also have a tilt wheel and that requires another tool.

So if I understand you correctly, the dimmer switch itself is not inside the column at the end of the turn signal control rod. THen since my turn signal's rod is pulled back further than if you are going into high-beam - and stuck there, which way should I go to fix it? Should I push it back where it belongs or would I break it?

Ok I did it.... was trying to force the turn switch and it broke whatever it's hooked to in there,
Actually it was already broken as it was stuck all the way back and then some from poor packing in the shipping,
I have a 86 I drive bought this column off ebay for a kit car,
Got cheated on ebay but the guy gave me a refund and then let me keep it,
So is it a total loss with the broken turn switch?

Thanks for the help,
P.
