What happens if you dont input the correct weight of the vehicle on a mustang dyno ? If a c4 weight roughly 3450 lbs what happens if you tell the dyno the car weighs 3100 or even 3700 ??
I have a friend who ran a dyno for some years...he told me he could make it show whatever rwhp and tq he wanted to...he also told me that some shops who did mods and had a dyno would "tweak" the dyno to show nice gains for the mods they installed...
On a mustang - the lower weight gives higher HP & Torque #'s.
I use to go to a mustang dyno and we ran it at 3300lbs(Stock), then ran it at 3100, do to weight reductions. The dyno does use the #'s in it's HP calculations and same day, withen minutes the lighter weight = higher HP & torque #'s.

I was thinking the same thing. If the weight is entered lower then the load on the drum is less and the engine may spin it easier which tricks the dyno into thinking it has more hp. On the other hand, what if an LS7 was placed in a pickup truck, and dynoed the same time as a c6. the truck will surely weigh 2000 lbs more... but should theoretically have the same hp rating.
I'm starting to believe it doesn't have an effect on the #s and the load just helps for real time tuning on the dyno, like for timing etc.
You can't fool a dynojet unless you screw with the weather station. When you do that you can see the inflated correction number. IE a normal correction would be 1.02. If all of a sudden your final run is corrected 1.06 you know you have some foul play.
Does the engine know what the vehicle it's in weighs??? If I take a truck engine and drivetrain out and install it in a Sunbeam Tiger, dynoed it? Does the HP change???
the STATIC vehicle weight should have no impact on the tq/hp figures obtained from the dyno...
only changes in ROTATING mass could influence the chassis dyno.
for example, installing lighter wheels and tires onto the rear of your car would cause slightly higher readings...
If you take 2 vehicles and they have the same engine and drive trains, they will both put the same numbers to the wheels. Now if you run them at the track, the lighter vehicle will have the better times. Am I wrong?
