Spindle Rods
Can the rubber (or neoprene) bushing in the upper and lower spindle rods be replaced or do you have to buy whole new spindle rods? My '92 has rubber that is cracking and crumbling. I'm quoted around $950 to replace the upper and lower on each side and the main ones....Am I being ripped or is this a legitimate estimate?
Thanks again, guys...

Not ball joints...In the rear there is an upper and lower wheel spindle control rod for each side that bolts onto the suspension knuckle, as well as a main spindle rod for each side that runs from the suspension knuckle to the differential carrier.
Total of 6 rods with rubber (or neoprene) bushings at each end. I sure hope someone can find a place that replaces the bushing instead of buying new aluminum rods...
Thanks,
put poly bushings in i dont think you can get rubber replacements anymore. front and rear poly kit is around 100$. annd yes thats a rape job. go somewhere else.

Vette Brakes and Products may have what you need. This page if for a set of rear "strut rod bushings" http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=682 The FSM calls the rods control rods and from the quantity of the pieces and description, they are probably the same items.
Poly bushings will be a big difference over the stock rubber ones, and you will most likely see a change in handling with the rear poly bushing in place. If the rear bushingss are cracked, you may find the front control arm bushing are in the same condition.
If you have a 92 FSM, it wil be a big help in showing how to remove and reinstall the rods if you do the work yourself. The 3 rods on each side hold the knuckle in place and you will have to have the rear end eligned after doing new bushings. This is not a real easy job as you are basically tearing the rear suspension apart.
I would think that you can cut the old bushings out but the new ones will have to be pressed in.
From the cost quote, it sounds like most of the cost is in labor. The VB&P bushing kit is $120. There may be other companies that have bushing kits (Energy Suspension is one you can try) You should still be able to get factory GM bushings as I believe the bushings are the same up thru the 96 cars.

I have found replacement spindle rods complete with poly bushings at Corvette Central very reasonably priced. Anyone familiar with using aftermarket parts for this replacement? GM has DISCONTINUED the darn thing...
Thanks in advance,
