Default Backup switch on 89 six speed

Anyone ever changed a backup switch on a six-speed (one in question is an 89). I can't see how it is done without dropping the transmission. It is at about the 10 O'Clock position on the transmission and there's not enough room to get you hand up in there, more/less a wrench.

It will be a TOTAL PITA! I've had to unplug mine to test why my backup lights were not working one time. Ended up having to drop the clutch slave cyl. to get my hand up there. After I unplugged it & tested, it started working again... been fine ever since.

Yeah, it's hard to get to. You have to remove the slave cylinder to have room to get your hand and the wrench on the switch. It wasn't too bad once the slave was out of the way, but then again I don't have precats anymore.

I replaced mine and never had to remove the slave cylinder. I think I just used a boxed end wrench and broke it loose. The rest wasn't too bad...30 minutes maybe with 20 of that just trying to get it loose.

Good luck.
