Default oil pressure

I need to know what the average hot idle oil pressure is for an lt1 c4. I'm looking to buy, and am checking out a 94 with > 80K miles, which the owner says has about 20 psi at idle. I don't know much about lt1's, but was a little surprised since my ls1 fbody is around 40 at idle. Thanks.

that is fine. the older LT1 style small block needs about 10psi per 1000 rpm.

check the gauge, he may be mis-reading it.

20 is fine for a non LS motor.
, LS1s seem to have quite a bit more at idle. I have an 81k mile 5.3 LS motor that makes 45 psi@450 rpm in drive.

The oil pressures on LT1 cars are bizarre. It's acceptable to have 6psi at 1000RPM.

20s is fine if the engine is hot.

It is? While I'm not an advocate of excessive oil pressure, (waste of HP) that is a bit low. Where did you come up with that number? Mine is not stock and I pay no attention to stock specs on this. My clearances are by design a bit looser than stock too. At full oil operating oil temperature, mine idles at 15-20 PSI and cruises at around 40 or so. It increases at higher RPMs. This is with 5-30 synthetic and a blueprinted high pressure (but not high volume) pump.

Mine at idle and operating temp runs 18-20, and about 45 at 1800 rpm.
